Babydoll Weddings Beauty: You Deserve A Little Relaxation!

50b97abca0acc1f9be787d39e4f4f270Planning a wedding no matter if you are doing it yourself or have a planner to help, it is stressful. There are so many dates to remember and appointments to keep track of that it all can be a bit overwhelming. Yes, it will all be worth it when you exchange the “I do’s” but until then we have a great tip on how to relax and take a break from the craziness of life and planning a wedding and it is as simple as taking a soak in the tub.

We suggest doing this once a week but even once a month will make a world of difference. Fill your tub with the desired warmth of water that is most comfortable to you. Throw in a handful of Epsom salt, 10 drops of lavender essential oil and half a cup of baking soda and soak for 20 minutes. By adding this mixture into your bath and soaking for 20 minutes will help draw out toxins, helps lower your stress related hormones and helps balance PH levels. And a big plus, the lavender essential oil helps make your skin sound lovely. My favorite time to do this is right before bed. I’m relaxed and a little sleepy and lavender always helps me sleep well!

You’ll be more relaxed and hopefully energized the next day, ready to get more planning done and check those items off of your to-do list!

Babydoll Weddings Beauty: When You Don’t Have Time For A Pedicure

Summer is officially here and we all know what that means; sun, sandals, pool days and vacation! All of which are reasons to get those feet in tip top summer shape. Some of us are religious with pedicures while others are not (I am not…). But I have found a way to keep my feet summer smooth in between pedicures. And yes it may sound like a weird combination of ingredients but it works!
976709f179de6c770eba84547d5e6c9aAll you need is 1 cup of Listerine; you can use any of the flavors but I prefer the blue. 1 cup of apple cider vinegar and 2 cups of “boiling” hot water. I prefer a temperature slightly below boiling, as long as it’s hot. Soak feet for about 20 minutes in the mixture. Which is the perfect amount of time to catch up n your favorite show, a good book or your social media! After the 20 minutes are up, rinse and all of the dead skin wipes right off. Perfect way to help those dry feet when you can’t squeeze a pedicure into your busy life!

Babydoll Beauty Secret: Helping You Keep Your Brows On Point!

One of my favorite recent beauty trends is the thick dark brows. I’ve always had more of thicker brd7731230190d0038ab08e4cd3f3dc849ow than other ladies (and when I was younger it was not on purpose) until I had that small stint of almost non-existent brows in college; which is a time that I am still trying to forget. But now I have fully embraced the dark thick brow and I love it; especially when there is a sharp arch and perfectly lined with the nose and eye. For the longest time I would just fill them in with out much thought but now, after learning this simple trick my brow game is strong; and your’s can be too!

First things first there are many different products that you can use to fill in your brows. There are powders, pencils, gel pots and pens. I prefer the gel pots because I feel like I henhanced-14181-1429129306-1ave more control over the sharpness and line than other products. Try out a few different ones until you find the one you like. Secondly, if you want more of a softer look go a shade lighter than your natural brow color. I personally go a shader darker than my natural brow color (I like the boldness of it). The next four steps are all about examining your brows on their natural point as well as determining the thickness you want them at. I have included a handy instruction list complete with diagrams to help guide you. I refer to this quite a bit when I am filling in my brows. It can be quite helpful!

Lastly, regular maintance of the brows is key to help keep their shape. W8b2973d82bbf8624a41e295d32e09867hether you prefer to trim and pluck or wax or all three, keeping up on the maintance will make it easier to fill in since your brows will already be shaped so all you need to do it fill in. For more tips and tricks of the trade ask your esthetician or a brow expert. They are full of great knowledge and helpful ways to always make sure your brows look on point!

Babydoll Beauty Secrets: Keeping Your Colorful Locks!

6f1622225935f82a5a1190609e94a6b1As all of you have noticed, bright shades of colorful hair and rich pastels are all the rage right now.(Unless you have been living under a rock then welcome to the world where everyone has hot pink and lime green hair.) From one color to multiple colors, it seems like everyone is coloring their hair as fast as they can so they can have as many colors as they possible can in their hair. Part of the process of this coloring is bleaching your hair which is something I highly suggest a professional hair stylist does in a salon and not something you do in your bathroom. Bleach is a powerful chemical and if used inappropriately can damage your hair beyond measure i.e. hair falling out, burning off or turning into almost a gummy like substance. So best to the leave it to the professionals. Then when the color is on your hair and you have fallen so deeply in love with it you want to do everything you can to make it last. You definitely want to start with high quality professional product which goes back to having a professional in a salon color your hair. Once you have done that then follow these simple steps and that mermaid hair you have will last far longer than you expected.

First, you NEED high quality salon shampoo and conditioner. They can contain harsh chemicaled261b4de0c4638076ee10ddfaf5a7aes so look for shampoo and conditioner that is made for colored hair. Look for the key words of “color-preserving” or “color safe” or “for color treated hair” anything of that sort. These shampoos have more mild ingredients which can help preserve the color of your hair. Even you can find a sulfate free color safe shampoo than that’s a double win. So throw that Suave in the trash! And using a conditioner with extra moisture can help make your hair look extra healthy and shiny. Coloring your hair can dry it out and make it look stiff so really conditioning the ends all the way to the middle of the hair can help make it looks its very best.

Secondly, rinse your hair with cold water. Yes, cold water. The hotter the water the more dryer your hair can get and the more dull it can look. Hot water also makes dye fade super quickly. So use the hot water for your body but cold water for your hair.

Thirdly, do not wash your hair everyday. It’s not good for your hair whether it is colored or not but it’s especially not great for colored hair. The more you wash the faster it fades. I know that is this a very hard habit to breaHair washingk especially if you have oily/greasy hair. I suggest in using a dry shampoo in place of washing every day.

Fourthly, check your hair’s condition before you dye it. If your hair is unhealthy and weak than coloring it will only make it worse. Try some deep conditioning treatments every two weeks to get hair healthy again.

I know some of these tips may be more maintenance for your hair than you would like or are used to but that is part of having colored hair. I follow the tips and my purple hair still looks fresh even after 3 months of coloring. Below are some extra tips that you can definitely incorporate into your routine but are not as important as the four listed above!452735bcc9ac66847cbacfef9f54b1f6

Extras!
1. Protect your hair from the pool. An excess amount of chlorine can strip that color right off. If a swimming cap is not your style (best way to protect) then rinse your hair in the shower first and apply conditioner before swimming. This will help prevent the hair from absorb the water and then rinse after swimming.
2. Avoiding heat tools all together is highly suggested due to colored hair being way more susceptible to damage and heat tools can add to that. But if those tools are necessary than make sure to use a heat protectant product.
3. Eating healthy. A diet full of vitamins and lean proteins can help keep your hair strong and healthy.

Babydoll Beauty Secret: For the Love of Aloe Vera

aloeMy of my favorites right now is aloe vera. I only ever used it in the summer until I learned of all of the amazing uses it has. I tried to grow it and use it fresh but my cat kept chewing on the leaf so I have to use the gel. But come summer I stock up on the gel to use all year (it’s always on sale and I love a good deal). Of course we all know the uses it is has for burns and help soothing them. But many people didn’t know how many other uses aloe vera has. Some of these uses cannot utilized when using the gel but they are still good to know for whenever you may need them.

Regulates your weight. By drinking aloe vera juice helps clean your digestive system which can help regulate your weight. I love this one because with someone who suffers from digestive disorders I love anything natural that can help.

Treats sunburns or burns from minor mishaps in the kitchen. We all know this one. If you have a sunburn (and we’re hoping this doesn’t happen very often) or a burn from cooking (this happens too many times for me) applying aloe vera (gel or straight from the plant) helps soothe the burn.

Dandruff. For those who suffer from either kind of dandruff have probably been suggested to use a harsh shampoo to help dry out the scalp but this also unfortunately dries out your hair as well. A more natural way to help dandruff is aloe vera. With its concentrated mixture of vitamins and minerals and moisturizing properties are exactly what a scalp needs in order to normalize and rid itself of the dandruff. Aloe Vera also contains something called pectin. The pectin in aloe vera has special properties that act as a type of “ce91654b1dd8d105dd63c0d8b34a8fe969ll cement” that causes cells to be stimulated, divide and grow. The fresh, healthy cells result in a fresh, healthy scalp.

Brightens the skin. If your skin has been looking a little dull or if you have dark spots, try using aloe vera. Due to its properties it can give you a natural glow and help decrease dark spots. And it leaves your skin feeling smooth and refreshed.

Ends Constipation or Indigestion. Due to the natural fibers contained in the juice, it can improve your bowel movement, thus improving the digestion process.

Treat Pimples and Acne.

I love when I incorporated aloe vera/aloe vera gel in my regular beauty/health routine from my digestive system to my skin. And the best part is, I actually saw results. So with summer upon us stock up at your local drug store or even try growing some and hopefully your fur babies won’t try to eat it like mine did.

Babydoll Beauty Secret: Best Beach Waves for Summer

74614b0f3107631838b06821df9bf109

As we entered into the warmer months we have been seeing beautiful blonde melts and long beachy waves. And as any one who has had their hair done, one of the most said comments is “I’ll never be able to do this at home” while I generally agree (I can’t curl my hair to save my life) I do know a great way to achieve beach waves at home.

The main secret to achieving this look is the prep you do to your hair right after shampooing. First you will need to use a very gentle hydrating leave in conditioner; my personal favorite is Lanza’s Keratin Bond 2. a16996d6a14a538122e75ae4ab81184bUse about a nickel size amount and scrunch into hair to work it in. Next you will want to use a light hold pomade. Most people will use this product if they have short hair and want to achieve a spikey or messy look but pomades can be used in longer hair too. But by using a dime size amount and rubbing into your hands and scrunching into the middle to ends of your hair it will help your hair retain hair memory and never be crunchy. If you were looking for more volume try scrunching more product in the areas of hair closest to your scalp.  0e59966de9f5a3c583fb47b2617dade5My favorite pomade to use is Biomega’s Text Me; has a great smell and the perfect amount of hold without making hair too sticky or greasy looking. The last step is let your hair air dry and viola beautiful beach waves (and in under 5 minutes)! And 794bc7525d2dee234f423fa8403345b0if you happen to have some pesky fly aways you can always finish it off with Moroccan Oil’s Smoothing Serum. Just make sure to really work into hands before applying to hair to avoid making your beach waves appear greasy.

Now you’re ready for summer (just don’t forget the sunscreen)!

{Real Bride} Meet Julie!

Our featured Real Bride for April is Julie who was married last March. She had such a fun wedding with some elements of Irish tradition and adorable ring bears!

23_2632_full

What is your name and when was your wedding date?
My name is Julie Kotzbach and we were married on March 14, 2015

Kate Eschbach Photography-47How did you and your groom meet?
Mike and I used to work together at a restaurant. He was a bartender and I waited tables. One days, after about 5 years of sort of knowing each other, he invited me to go hang out with him after work with some of his friends. I did. We hung out again a couple days later, and then started spending every day together. We got married just after 8 ½ years of dating.

We are dying to know, how did he propose?!
Mike proposed on Christmas Eve at my dad’s house. It was my dad’s birthday and we do Christmas with that side of my family the same day. Everyone was there. My dad and step-mom totally knew, and I had no idea. My dad called me into the living room (everyone was sitting around the room since we just opened presents), Mike snuck up behind me, my dad spun me around, and BAM! Mike was on one knee.

After he proposed lots of things that he’d said and had happened earlier in the day made total sense. He’s a sneaky little devil. I called my mom to tell her right away, but she already knew. Mike had gone to see my dad the week before to ask permission, and had gone to see my mom to tell her since she wouldn’t be there when it happened. He’s thoughtful like that.

What were your wedding colors? Did you have an overall theme for your wedding day celebration?
Our colors were grey and green. There wasn’t a theme per say. We found colors we liked, loved the space, and just kind of went with how I felt about everything. I guess maybe our paper garden23_2632_fullias became the theme since they took over our lives for a few months. Haha.49_2658_full

How large was our wedding party?
We had 4 bridesmaids, 2 groomsmen, 1 groomsmaid, 2 flower girls, and 2 ring bearers.

Where did you find yourdress? Would you say that finding your dress was a relatively easy or a difficult process?
I got my dress at David’s Bridal in Ahwatukee, it was the first and only store we went to. The consultant I had was great. I showed her all the David’s dresses I liked, but I should have shown her all my pictures. I tried on 4 dresses. The 3rd was a tea dress and I went in with the mindset that a tea dress was what I wanted. However, I wanted to like a long dress to compare. I put the dress and didn’t want to take it off. Surprising I went to my would-be dress pictures later, and the one I ended up getting was really similar to another once I had been looking at. Go figure.

Where did your ceremony and reception take place? Was there any special meaning behind the choice of venue(s)?
We had our ceremony and reception at Chapel at the Farm in Gilbert. I had been looking for a venue and was starting to feel like I had to have a certain type of wedding. It sucked. I found Chapel and went over to the site. Then I realized I’d been there many times before. My mom and I have breakfast often at the little restaurant in front of the area. The moment I walked under the pavilion I immediately relaxed. This was the place. It was pretty, open, there was a big grass area for the kids, and we could make the space whatever we wanted.

What kind of flowers did you have in your bouquet and the ceremony/ reception?
Oh the flowers. My amazing friends came over to our house for 2 months before the wedding and helped me assemble 300 paper gardenias for the entire wedding. They were amazing when they were finished!

Kate Eschbach Photography-199

What was the flavor of your wedding cake? Did you have a groom’s cake?
We ended up not having a groom’s cake, even though I tried to talk Mike into getting a 1995 Chevy cake. Our cake had 3 tiers and we did a different flavor for each tier. The bottom was almond cake with almond buttercream. (I’m normally not into almond all the much, but the cake was amazing. We tried it at our tasting and I was surprised at how yummy it was!) The middle tier was chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, and the top tier was vanilla cake with salted caramel filling. We had buttercream for the outer layer with a simple white on white design. The whole thing was totally delicious! We may have had cake for breakfast the next day.

Did you provide favors to your guests? If so, what were they?
Since we got married on Pi Day, I decided to have a little fun with it. I made mini recipe cards of some family pie recipes and other recipes pie recipes I loved, and turned then them into a mini cookbook with a binder ring.

What details from your wedding that made it unique to you?
The flowers were A LOT of work but they meant a lot to me, and spending that extra time with my friends was fun. I made 2 flavors of popcorn, packed in Chinese take-out boxes, the night before the wedding for cocktail hour. I love making popcorn. A blogger friend made custom peg dolls for our cake toppers, complete with flat t36_2645_fullop for make. One of my favorite things was leaving the wedding in Mike’s 1955 Chevy. He’d worked for a month to get her back in action so we could drive her home from the wedding. The other big thing was, the lead piper from our bagpipe band played me down the aisle. Mike chose the song. His sister walked down the aisle to it, when his dad passed they played it, and now he was welcoming me to the family with the same song. It was a big deal to me.

Other than marrying your husband, what was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
Kate Eschbach Photography-86There are two moments.  The first was the Best Man’s speech.  Kyle was so funny and sweet, and he had the whole thing memorized.  Apparently there’s a 12 minute version of the speech I’m dying to hear.  The second was at the after party.  One of our bagpiper friends dedicated a song to me before the boys started playing their set.  He never plays this song in public, it’s only for very close friends and family special occasions.  It was a great song, and I was so flattered he thought to gift me that way.

Did you take a honeymoon? If so, where did you go?
We are hoping to honeymoon in Vegas for our anniversary.

What is one piece of wisdom you learned from your planning experience that you would like to share with future brides?Drama will happen, you can’t control it, don’t let it suck you in. We had a lot of back and forth with the guest list. Due to venue and budget limitations we were inviting family only. We managed to sneak in a few longtime friends after getting some no RSVPs back. There were people that got upset that their invitation came before another family member’s and vice versa. If anyone (moms, dads, etc.) start pushing you about RSVPs, put them on the job. If they want to know so badly, they can find out and report back to you. It added a lot of stress I didn’t need, so I made it someone else’s problem. Put them on the wedding team and make ‘em work!

Who were some of the other vendors that were a part of your dream team?
Hair and Makeup – Babydoll Weddings

DSC_6731I cannot say enough great stuff about Sabrina (and her staff)!! She’s amazing! My bridal trial was great. I had no idea how to explain what I wanted. I showed Sabrina some pics and she took it from there. She talked me into my first salon hair coloring ever and killed it! My hair and makeup day of was perfect. My curls lasted all day, which is unheard of, and I felt beautiful.
Dress – David’s Bridal Bride’s rings
Gemvara (online) –  Groom’s ring
The Irish Jeweler (online) – Finding the right claddaghs (rings) was hard, but a little searching left Mike and I both happy. I had to custom order his ring from Dublin and the jeweler was awesome!
Cake – Piece of Cake Desserts
Rentals & Catering – Heidi’s Events & Catering   (Jillian was so great to work with)
DJ – Cerrick Entertainment (Crissy kicks ass!!)
Photo Booth – AZ Photo Box (had a thumb drive of all the pics, photo strips and individual pics, to take home with us that night!)

Babydoll Beauty Secrets: The 5 Do Not Do’s!

static1.squarespace-645x430You’ve been planning for your big day for months and it’s almost here. It is so close you can see your future husband standing at the aisle and you can taste those tasty appetizers you so carefully chose. It’s all come down to that one night. There are some brides who may panic thinking about all of this (which is totally understandable) and with this they may do something drastic. Working in the industry I’ve seen them all. So with that I have created “Michelle’s Top 5 Do Not Do Before the Wedding List” to help those in need.

Number One: New Hairstyles
It is suggested not to try out that cute new bob hair cut or dusty pink color right before your wedding; no matter how fantastic your hair stylist may be. I suggest this because you do not want any surprises on your wedding day, especially with how you look. And you don’t want to end up hating the cut and not being able to go back or hating the color and not having the time to get it recolored. None of us want to look back at our wedding photos and ask ourselves “why did I ever do that?!”

Number Two: Too Many Cocktailseb2d65e073821fe8f0618d68aecf5780
A week before your wedding is generally filled with parties, celebrations and dinners; all of these probably will include cocktails of some sort (generally speaking of course). Of course you want to celebrate with your friends and family but just be careful with the amount of cocktails you have. Drinking can be a source of unwanted calories and can cause skin problems. Too much alcohol can cause you to feel bloated and not great after a late night of drinking and not enough sleep. Bloating and blemishes on the skin and dark circles from lack of sleep is the last thing you need on your big day!

Number Four: Say No To That Spray Tan
Don’t get me wrong I am all for spray tans and looking like that summer goddess. You get to glow without the fear of skin cancer, it’s great! It’s just not great a week before your wedding. If you’ve been working00fac5b7d9e86b5f779105160b9081b1g on your tan for the weeks leading up to the wedding please do not get frustrated and go get a spray tan. You could end up orange and streaky or it could react poorly with your skin and we want none of these things to happen!
Number Five: Eat a Sandwich
One of the last things you should put your body through is excessive dieting. Yes you may want to shed that one last pound before the honeymoon but starving your body and putting it through an extreme change a week before the wedding is not the way to do it. Your body needs the fuel that food can provide to keep you going through those last minute details. Eat as your normally would but it is probably best to stay away from foods that make you fee bloated and gassy. You want to look and feel beautiful on this big day and not gross and ballon like.
So there it is, my list of the 5 biggest “Do Not Do” before your wedding!

Babydoll Beauty Secrets: Perfect Tips for Perfect Lips

dab57c064e926aa47a7abd0f7a3589ecWedding season is here and we could not be more excited; especially with all of the fun spring makeup trends. Because one of them is a big bold lip we wanted to share with you on how to keep those lips smooth from morning to night. Perfect tip for your wedding day or a night on the town! Start by prepping your lips with a lip scrub. You can use a store bought such as Fresh’s Sugar Lip Polish or there are plenty of DIY recipes out there; either or scrub works great! Next you’ll want to apply some hydrating balm or serum to those lips! One of our personal favorites is MUFE’s Hydrating Elixir (it can be used for eyes or face). Next comes the lip primer. This will give your lip product something to adhere to other than your lips. Then continue with your liner, lipstick and or gloss. And lastly and also incredibly important, blot. And to give the lips a crisp clean outline follow with a clean blended line of concealer in the cupids bow of the upper lip and under the bottom lip.  Perfect tips for perfect lips!
