Well, it’s happened. I have jumped on the coconut oil train and I will never jump off. And the more I use it the more I ask myself how I did I not jump on sooner?! I started using it as a face mask to help treat acne. I suffered from severe acne in high school and I still have quite a bit of scaring and redness. So instead of globbing on makeup I looked for a more natural way to help reduce the redness as well treat some of those pesky blemishes that pop up every once in awhile. I came across this very simple face mask consisting of coconut oil (I prefer the coconut oil from Trader Joe’s) and tea tree oil (Doteerra is my go to for essential oils). By mixing these two ingredients together you have a treatment that helps fight bacteria on the face naturally and also will not over dry nor clog pores. It’s what everyone who suffers from acne ever wanted.
After I discovered this face mask that’s when I really jumped into the coconut oil life style. I now use it in my hair, when I cook, in my coffee and sometimes I just rub pure coconut oil on my skin before I go to sleep. It’s fantastic! And because of it’s growing popularity the price dropped significantly since when it first came on the market. It has now become a staple in my beauty routine as well as my eating habits and I will never look back!
This weeks beauty secret is not really a beauty secret but I’m definitely helping revel a big secret that I am so happy I never have to deal with it again. So with wedding season barreling at us at the speed of a train I thought I would help some ladies out there who are asking the age old question “what do I wear to this wedding?” We all know not to wear white but I was surprised to learn that there are more rules than just that. (Looks like I shouldn’t have worn black to the last wedding I was at… Oops!) The Bustle posted this article titled “The 8 Rules Of What To Wear To A Wedding” and I can say, I wish I would have had these rules last year. So enjoy dolls, I hope this helps!
You have been planning your big day for months and maybe even longer. Everything is in it’s place and every detail is figured out and you even have a backup plan to your backup plan in case something goes wrong. Now that the day is here and you have planned your dream wedding, the only thing you need to be focused on is getting married! Not if your lip color has faded a tad or if your hair needs a quick touch up; so let your maid of honor worry about any faux pas that may happen. All she needs is a wedding survival kit complete with things like a sample of your lip color, Band-Aids, bobby pins, stain removal, Q-Tips – the works! They can be purchased already put together for you or you can create it yourself and find an adorable makeup bag to put it all in that your maid of honor can use later! We love this idea because what’s better than looking fabulous? Looking fabulous and not worrying about anything!
Hair gets knotted and tangles happen, as much as we try to avid them, they happen; especially with long hair. And we try everything we can to make our hair easier to brush. It is common belief that wetting hair is the best way to help untangle it. Our stylist Micky says never to do that! When hair is wet is it in its most fragile state. Make sure you turn your brush vertically (not horizontally). When the brush is horizontal the bristles cross each other but when it is turned vertically that are not and this helps with untangling the hair and making it easier to brush. So you start brushing at the end of the hair and go up until your hair is silky smooth and tangle free!
When most fill in their eyebrows or when they apply lipstick they seem to only focus on what is inside and not so much the outside area. One of our stylist Anna has a fantastic tip to help highlight the lips and brows. She goes back and uses a little concealer or highlighting power with a flat round brush and goes under the brows to highlight their color and shape. She also takes a Q-Tip and cleans up the lips all to make sure they have that on point look!
In keeping with our theme this month of fighting and preventing dry flaky skin, Amanda has a fantastic tip for us! And it’s perfect for those who love DIY beauty! So, we can all be honest and say that we do not like dry and flaky skin. It makes makeup look patchy, it’s uncomfortable and sometimes it makes it hard to put our best face forward (quite literally). Exfoliators can help this problem tremendously and best part is, you can make this one right at home! Just combine sugar and fresh lemon juice together until it makes a paste. Then massage onto your face in little circles, concentrating more in the spots that may be more dry and flaky, and then wash off! It’s easy to make, inexpensive, smells amazing and you can use it as a body scrub as well to really fight off dry skin!
Your big day is quickly approaching and with all of the excitement, celebrations and maybe a little stress your nights may feel like they are getting shorter and shorter. If a good nights sleep is all you’ve been “dreaming” about than look no further, Micky has a solution for you! Rubbing a little lavender essential oil on the bottom of your feet before bed can help you relax and fall into that peaceful and restful sleep you’ve been missing. If your skin is sensitive than dilute it with some coconut oil.
When applying makeup every morning, I and many women out there just want a flawless complexion and foundation that will last from day to night. Alas, everything I have tried has failed until now. One of our stylists Micky has this fantastic trick to solve all of my problems. She told me to spray my foundation brush or beauty blender (whichever you prefer to use) with a setting spray before applying my foundation. By doing this it will ensure even blending (yay) and a long lasting flawless complexion (double yay)! She said that even spraying your eyeshadow brushes before application will also ensure your eyeshadow has been blended perfectly and that it will last from day to night! Thank you once again Micky for making our mornings easier!
As someone who discovers a product she loves and will use the same product till the day she dies; I know the pain and struggle of when your favorite product runs out and there is no time to run out and purchase another one or you’re on a budget. One of my most used products is lipstick and it always seems to “run out” at the worst possible moment. So that is why I am so happy to share this tip our stylist Amanda has found!
Amanda has found that when a lipstick tube appears to be useless because the lipstick has be used all the way down to the tube, this is when one would throw out the lipstick. Instead of doing this she suggests in taking a makeup spatula or the back of a makeup brush to scoop lipstick out of the tube. After doing this she has found that there is usually another half inch or so of lipstick in there! (Oh happy day!) You can put this lipstick in a small container and use a lip brush for application. A tip on storing the extra lipstick; make sure the container has a lid or a way to seal it from air because the lipstick will dry out.
Is your skin looking a little dull or lifeless? One of our stylists Kris suggests trying an exfoliating face wash once or twice a week. She says “it’s important to slough off dead skin cells to speed up cell renewal. New cells mean glowing and radiant skin!” Make sure to use an exfoliator with perfectly round beads, not with apricot shell, sugar, etc. These washes can actually tear your pores due to jagged edges. She recommends using Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser. This cleanser utilizes microbeads to physically exfoliate your skin as well using alpha and beta hydroxy acids to exfoliate and speed up cell renewal. It is gentle enough to use twice a week for oily skin and once a week for normal skin. Bonus to using this scrub: it will help eliminate and prevent breakouts!
