Perfect Eyes for Your Wedding Day
Our stylists are frequently asked how to create the perfect wedding day eyes. These simple tips will insure that your eyes are bright and beautiful whether you choose a classic, romantic or dramatic look.
Erase Dark Circles
Did you stay up late dishing with your bride tribe? Dark circles are an easy fix with the right concealer. First, apply foundation and then gently pat your concealer in the corner of your eyes working outward. Gently press concealer onto your skin – never rub. To add staying power, top with a translucent powder.
The Brows Have It
Consider having your brows shaped the week prior to the wedding by a professional that uses tweezers. Waxing and threading don’t remove individual hairs and you want to make sure that your shape is clean and near perfect. To enhance your brows, select a powder with the same undertone as your hair color but be sure it looks natural in the daylight. Outline the natural shape of your brows with an angled brush designed for this application then lightly fill in with powder and pencil if needed. We love Urban Decay’s brow box.
Expert Eye Shadow
Create the perfect canvas for your shadow by applying primer to your eyes. This will keep your eyeshadow from creasing and extend the wear time. When applying color, opt for soft, subtle, neutral shades to enhance your eyes. A creme base, layered with matte powder, will extend the life of your shadow from your first look all the way through your last dance.
Liquid or Pencil Liner
Liquid liner can look heavy, especially in photos so our experts recommend a pencil liner in charcoal, navy or mahogany to enhance your eyes. While black is a popular go-to, you may find it is too severe. Consider amplifying your liner by applying a bit of shadow over the top (be sure to use a slightly damp brush to apply).
Bat Your Lashes
False lashes are popular additions to your wedding day beauty regimen but if you are a big crier you may want to rethink them. Shedding tears of joy will cause your lashes to lift. You can create a dramatic effect with your own lashes. Start by curling the lashes, starting at the lid to create lift. Follow this with a volumizing mascara (note, you can swipe a small amount of baby powder across your lashes to help the mascara grab thus creating more volume) but be sure it is waterproof! Now you are ready to face your groom and the camera.
Handle the Heat While Staying Fresh and Dry
Don’t sweat it, dolls! As the temperatures begin to climb in AZ (can you say 96 degrees in mid-March #dolls?), we turned to our stylists for some simple tips to keep you fresh and dry on your big day, and the days leading up to and long after you walk down the aisle. All you need is some baby or talcum powder, a large makeup brush, and a little help. Simply brush a light coat of powder over your chest, back, underarms and any other area that may need attention (under the bust line or around your thighs). Don’t be afraid to ask your maids for help reaching your back. We all know they will do anything for you! Now you are ready to dance the night away with your handsome husband.
A Day to Cherish is a wedding planning company whom we have had the pleasure of working closely with on weddings and most recently a photoshoot for AZ Finest Wedding Sites & Services magazine. We so enjoyed working with Cara and her team on that shoot so we wanted to feature her and her company for this Friday’s Friendor! Read more about this wonderful company below!
The beauty and power of makeup will never cease to amaze me. With simple color combinations one can hide darks circles or scaring or create a beautiful smoky eye, but one look that we have learned every bride desires is that natural glow. While this can be achieved with makeup, really achieving this look starts with habits long before you sit in the makeup chair and get dolled up for your big day.
Protect Your Skin
Signs of aging and sun damage can start to appear as early as your 20’s and then become more and more apparent by your 30’s. No soon-to-be-bride wants that! By starting a routine to protect and preserve your skin in your 20’s and continue it (even after your wedding) will be the best thing you can do! Cleanse, moisturizer, sunscreen (even in the winter) and a serum that offers protection and renewal for your skin.
Always Make Sure To Exfoliate
If you are battling any type of skin concern, whether it be dryness and dullness or even acne can be helped with an exfoliator. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and whatever dirt or oil may be on your skin. On top of your skin looking great it also feels great great. We suggest in doing this 2-3 times a week. And to really bump up your skin routine try adding a pore minimizer serum to help tighten the look of pores and reduce their appearence.
Dark Circles? No thank you!
Nothing screams tired or run down quite like under eye dark circles do. Those pesky shadows that no foundation or concealer can’t quite hide. The solution? An eye cream that targets the bags, puffiness and dark circles. Bonus if it offer hydration!
Don’t Let The Rest of Your Body Feel Left Out
Your face isn’t the only part of your body that needs hydration and care; you can’t forget about your arms and legs! Applying lotion two times day helps your skin feel hydrated and of course smooth and silky. To achieve that summer glow all year long try using a toning lotion in the morning and a deep hydrating lotion at night. Bonus if it has green tea in it which helps skin look more defined and toned!
Planning a wedding no matter if you are doing it yourself or have a planner to help, it is stressful. There are so many dates to remember and appointments to keep track of that it all can be a bit overwhelming. Yes, it will all be worth it when you exchange the “I do’s” but until then we have a great tip on how to relax and take a break from the craziness of life and planning a wedding and it is as simple as taking a soak in the tub.
We suggest doing this once a week but even once a month will make a world of difference. Fill your tub with the desired warmth of water that is most comfortable to you. Throw in a handful of Epsom salt, 10 drops of lavender essential oil and half a cup of baking soda and soak for 20 minutes. By adding this mixture into your bath and soaking for 20 minutes will help draw out toxins, helps lower your stress related hormones and helps balance PH levels. And a big plus, the lavender essential oil helps make your skin sound lovely. My favorite time to do this is right before bed. I’m relaxed and a little sleepy and lavender always helps me sleep well!
You’ll be more relaxed and hopefully energized the next day, ready to get more planning done and check those items off of your to-do list!
Here at Babydoll Weddings the work and play never stop! Among the busy wedding season we were invited to participate in a gown shoot for Arizona Weddings’ newest issue (on news stands). It was a treat to be able to work some of the best wedding professionals in the industry as well as being able to have fun with them at the drop party a few weeks later. We are so excited to feature some of our favorites from that shoot and being able to show off the marvelous work of our artists and of those of all the vendors that were a part of the team.
With inspiration taken from the Spanish Colonial mixed with soft pinks and greens and a touch of some classic elements made this styled shoot a joy to be a part of. If you are a bride with more of a classic taste but still wanting a touch of bright colors or is wanting more of subtle details than you will be in love with everything about this shoot! Summer is officially here and we all know what that means; sun, sandals, pool days and vacation! All of which are reasons to get those feet in tip top summer shape. Some of us are religious with pedicures while others are not (I am not…). But I have found a way to keep my feet summer smooth in between pedicures. And yes it may sound like a weird combination of ingredients but it works!
All you need is 1 cup of Listerine; you can use any of the flavors but I prefer the blue. 1 cup of apple cider vinegar and 2 cups of “boiling” hot water. I prefer a temperature slightly below boiling, as long as it’s hot. Soak feet for about 20 minutes in the mixture. Which is the perfect amount of time to catch up n your favorite show, a good book or your social media! After the 20 minutes are up, rinse and all of the dead skin wipes right off. Perfect way to help those dry feet when you can’t squeeze a pedicure into your busy life!
You’ve been planning for your big day for months and it’s almost here. It is so close you can see your future husband standing at the aisle and you can taste those tasty appetizers you so carefully chose. It’s all come down to that one night. There are some brides who may panic thinking about all of this (which is totally understandable) and with this they may do something drastic. Working in the industry I’ve seen them all. So with that I have created “Michelle’s Top 5 Do Not Do Before the Wedding List” to help those in need.
Number One: New Hairstyles
It is suggested not to try out that cute new bob hair cut or dusty pink color right before your wedding; no matter how fantastic your hair stylist may be. I suggest this because you do not want any surprises on your wedding day, especially with how you look. And you don’t want to end up hating the cut and not being able to go back or hating the color and not having the time to get it recolored. None of us want to look back at our wedding photos and ask ourselves “why did I ever do that?!”
Number Two: Too Many Cocktails
A week before your wedding is generally filled with parties, celebrations and dinners; all of these probably will include cocktails of some sort (generally speaking of course). Of course you want to celebrate with your friends and family but just be careful with the amount of cocktails you have. Drinking can be a source of unwanted calories and can cause skin problems. Too much alcohol can cause you to feel bloated and not great after a late night of drinking and not enough sleep. Bloating and blemishes on the skin and dark circles from lack of sleep is the last thing you need on your big day!
Wedding season is here and we could not be more excited; especially with all of the fun spring makeup trends. Because one of them is a big bold lip we wanted to share with you on how to keep those lips smooth from morning to night. Perfect tip for your wedding day or a night on the town! Start by prepping your lips with a lip scrub. You can use a store bought such as Fresh’s Sugar Lip Polish or there are plenty of DIY recipes out there; either or scrub works great! Next you’ll want to apply some hydrating balm or serum to those lips! One of our personal favorites is MUFE’s Hydrating Elixir (it can be used for eyes or face). Next comes the lip primer. This will give your lip product something to adhere to other than your lips. Then continue with your liner, lipstick and or gloss. And lastly and also incredibly important, blot. And to give the lips a crisp clean outline follow with a clean blended line of concealer in the cupids bow of the upper lip and under the bottom lip. Perfect tips for perfect lips!
