Having a good healthy skin care regime is something I strive and work for every day. And really it has gotten a lot better in the most recent years but there are still some bad habits that keep sticking around. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. The bad habits we talk about in this blog post are not the worst of the habits but are still terrible and two of them are the hardest for me to break. Read more below!
Mistake #1: Wearing Makeup to The Gym:
This is a typical problem. Most of us head to the gym right after work and do not take the time to take off our makeup from the day. It’s incredibly important to take the few minutes before your work out to take off your makeup because wearing makeup while you work out can cause buildup of excess oil and clog pores. “Sweating opens up pores and when there’s a layer of makeup on top of it, combined with dirt and bacteria, it can lead to breakouts categorized as acne cosmetica,” says Dr. David Bank, a dermatologist and author of Beautiful Skin: Every Woman’s Guide to Looking Her Best at Any Age and Founder & Director of The Center For Dermatology, Cosmetic & Laser Surgery in Mt. Kisco, New York. So wash off the makeup and let your pores be free!
Mistake #2: Sleeping in makeup:
This is the one that I struggle with the most. By the time I’m ready to fall into my bed I am exhausted and the last thing I want to is wash my face. But I have to change this! Sleeping in your makeup clogs pores, creates more oils and does not help acne. If you do suffer from acne or oily skin *raises hand* it is so important to wash away all of that excess oil from the day as well as oil from your makeup. By not doing this it will clog your pores and as we know cause more acne.
Mistake #3: Cutting the Dairy
It actually came to a surprise to me how much dairy can effect your skin and it’s appearance. Dairy can cause inflammation which can wreck havoc on cystic acne suffers. Now we’re not saying to totally cut dairy out of your diet but one way to help cut the inflammation is to switch to a non-dairy milk such as almond or soy milk. You’d be surprised of the difference this small change could make.
